Basics On Smartlipo Somerville Residents Should Know Of

By Kevin Campbell

Smartlipo (also known as laser liposuction) is a procedure in which fat is removed from areas of the body in which too much of it is undesirable. The procedure is mainly performed for cosmetic purposes but may have a therapeutic value in persons that have weight-related complications such as diabetes, high blood pressure and sleep apnea among others. There are a number of things on smartlipo Somerville residents need to know if they wish to have the treatment.

There are several benefits that are associated with this procedure. One of them is the fact that it has less downtime compared to similar operations. Most people can leave the facility and go home on the same day. The other major advantage is that two procedures can be done in the same instance; reduction of fat and tightening of loose skin.

Laser liposuction is done through minimal access of the areas of interest. This is facilitated by use of a fiber optic laser probe. Some of the areas that may require a reduction in the amount of fat include the abdominal wall, buttock, the inner thighs and the neck among others. Local anesthesia may be used if one experiences pain but this is not routine practice. General anesthesia is require if the surgery involves an extensive area.

The first stage of this procedure involves the removal of fat in the subcutaneous region. This is achieved by using the laser to liquefy the fat and allowing it to leak out or using suction pressure to get rid of it. The second stage occurs at the dermis region of the skin. Here, thermal energy is used to break down connective tissue and to stimulate the formation of newer fibers that ultimately result in tighter skin.

Instead of suctioning the liquefied fat, it may be left in place in an alternative technique. Over time, it gets absorbed by the body. This technique may be preferred over conventional laser liposuction if the layer of fat is too small and the main aim is to strengthen overstretched skin. Some of the areas in which this may be needed is the neck and the face.

The laser procedure is associated with very few complications. Due to the ability of the probe to cause coagulation, the rate of bleeding, swelling and bruising is markedly reduced. The scars that are formed afterwards are very small and inconspicuous. On average, a person that has been through the surgery can resume their daily chores with 24 to 48 hours.

Bear in mind that part of the fat that is liquefied is trapped in the extracellular space. It may, in some cases, affect the amount of tissue fluid as well as the amount of fluid in your vessels. For this reason, it is highly recommended that one takes part in cardio exercises in the postoperative period to minimize this risk. Ensure that you are properly hydrated.

If you do not have the right plan, losing weight can be one of the most difficult tasks that one has to undertake. While physical exercise and diet have been successful in a large number of people, they tend to require a lot of hard work and patience. For a person that needs to lose fat in a short span of time more invasive options such as laser liposuction are needed.
