Some Benefits Related To Smartlipo Somerville Clients Should Know Of

By Scott White

Smartlipo (also called laser liposuction), is a procedure that is performed mainly for its cosmetic benefits. In a few cases however, the procedure may be used for weight loss. Potential candidates include persons with weight-related medical conditions such as high blood pressure, sleep apnea, diabetes and gastro-esophageal reflux disease. Before undergoing smartlipo Somerville residents need to ensure that they fully understand the procedure.

There are two procedures done in the same setting. The first is the removal of unwanted fat in some parts of the body namely the tummy, the buttocks, the thighs, the neck and even the face. The second is removal of redundant skin and tightening of affected areas. The result is increased tautness and a more youthful appearance. Compared to the alternative techniques that are used for the same the results with laser liposuction are better.

Being a minor operation, laser liposuction can be performed with very little preparation. Part of this preparation is the taking of a clinical history and the performance of a physical examination by your doctor. The importance of this is that it gives the doctor an opportunity to identify any diseases or medical conditions that may increase the risks of the operation. If you are a smoker, you will be asked to stop the habit momentarily until healing takes place.

The operation itself is performed under local, general or regional anesthesia based on the size of the body involved. If only a small region is to be operated on, local anesthesia will be used. If there are multiple large areas, on the other hand, general anesthesia is preferred. Except in cases where general anesthesia has been administered, there is usually no need for admission to hospital.

The procedure is done to the two major layers of the skin: the epidermis and the dermis. The dermis is the deeper layer and overlies the subcutaneous tissues which usually contain fat deposits. At this level, the laser beam is used to cause liquefaction of fat into oils. The oils can then be suctioned and discarded. Connective tissue fibers are located in both layers. The laser is used to cause intentional injury so that newer fibers can grow.

There are a number of areas in the body where the thickness of the skin is not as much as what is found elsewhere. Liposuction in such areas presents a major challenge. The face and the neck are examples. In these areas, once liquefaction has taken place, the resultant oils are allowed to flow freely before removal of redundant skin and tightening procedures are done.

The incisions made during this operation are quite small which means that the scars formed later on are also very small. This becomes important if the procedure is being done on an area that is exposed such as the face or the neck. The bleeding is also minimal due to the coagulating effect of the laser. As soon as blood vessels are injured, coagulation takes place and prevents excessive blood loss.

Laser liposuction can be performed in both men and women. The number of women having the procedure is a lot more than that of men but a general increase is being seen in both groups of clients. The main reasons behind this are the effectiveness of the procedure, fewer risks and a short recovery period. On average, patients can return to their daily routines in a day or two.
