About Different Sunless Tanning Methods

By Haywood Hunter

Much has been said about sunbathing. The Sun is the source of life, and exposure to sunlight affects mood, health and overall quality of life. On the other hand, overexposure to the sun's rays can be very dangerous. You should avoid sunbathing at the time when the harmful rays are strongest. People with very pale and sensitive skin should use one of the methods of sunless tanning.

One of these widely popular bronze achieving methods is solarium. If you want to achieve deeper nuances, you have to be patient, and to take at least several shorter sessions. Other way you could get sunburns, or damage your skin. In any case, the skin needs to be protected, as well as your eyes. You have to be aware that you cannot get tropical nuance in one session only.

Solarium services are not cheap. To achieve the desired shade sometimes it takes a few sessions, depending on desired intensity. You cannot expect to be deeply tanned at once. If you overdo it, you can get burns, just as if you were sunbathing. If the skin is very sensitive, or damaged, it's advisable to avoid this way to achieve a tan.

Until some time ago, different self-tanners were quite famous thanks to unnatural orange tones they have sometimes produced. Fortunately, new lotions and creams give very nice, natural looking results. The best thing about these products is that you can pick the color you think is best for you, and have beautifully tanned skin the very same day. You can do it yourself, or visit some specialized salon.

Self-Tanning Salons offer the service of applying paint using an air brush. It is a very effective method, provided that it is practiced by well-trained person. The color is uniform, because it is applied in the form of tiny droplets that are absorbed into the skin without any leaks, streaks or drips. Do not forget to bring your old swimsuit to your chosen salon.

Of course, you are perfectly able to do this in your own bathroom. All fake tan products are available in different forms and several catchy nuances you can choose from. Instant gels and foams, overnight lotions, facial creams, you name it. Most products need a few hours to develop, but when you are in hurry, there are some instant solutions for you, too.

Most self-tanners are based on DHA. This component is based on natural sugar, and perfectly harmless. It causes a chemical reaction with the amino acids in the dead layer on the skin, very similar to natural tanning process. That's why the color lasts for at least few days, fading gradually. The skin is constantly renewing itself, and if you want to keep the intensity, you have to reapply the product.

Skin preparation for this procedure include gentle skin exfoliation. There are several very good skin exfoliating gels and foams that can be used for this, but you can simply use your washing cloth. Dry and rough skin areas require special attention, because they tend to absorb more lotion, and can become darker. Re-apply your chosen product when it's necessary. Color maintaining lotions can help saving color intensity.
