Self Tanning Tips And Advices

By Haywood Hunter

Thanks to the fact that sunbathing is finally becoming unpopular, more people turn to self tanning products. They are safe to use, they provide great summer glow and everyone looks so much better, thinner and healthier. Self tanning products include foams, creams and lotions, and all the good ones have the same characteristic. They all contain a sugar-based component called DHA.

DHA creates very appealing color when it reacts with amino acids in surface skin layer. The intensity depends on the level of DHA, but it can be enhanced using other components used in this particular formula. Self tanning lotions and foams contain color enhancers, but also some high-quality moisturizers. Thanks to them, they are mild and gentle to the skin.

If your goal is just to bring some color to your skin and refresh your natural complexion, your chosen shade should be only a few nuances darker than your natural tan. In summer time, you can go crazy with deep bronze self tanning foams and lotions. In any case, there are some tips and tricks for applying sunless tan products even more successfully.

When applying your chosen self tanning lotion to your face, make sure to pull your hair up into ponytail first. Cleanse and exfoliate the face and neck carefully. Blend a little amount of self tanning lotion with a few drops of your moisturizer and apply this mixture quickly on your face. Don't forget to apply it on your earlobes and upper ears.

If you put some eye cream under your eyes, these areas will remain lighter when you apply self tanning lotion on your face. This little trick will make you look younger. Another thing that can be done to make your fake tan more realistic is to add a little bronzing powder on your cheeks, forehead and nose. Naturally achieved tan is never perfectly even on all areas.

Vaseline will protect your nails and cuticles from stains. Stains on your nails can be removed by nail polish remover, but toothpaste can also be helpful. If nothing else help, try soaking your fingers in your denture cleaner. It is usually very effective.

You have to exfoliate your entire body before starting applying a self tanning lotion. Pay special attention to heels, knees and elbows. If you need to shave, do it at least a day before the treatment. For sensitive skin, it's better to use good baby oil instead of your usual shaving cream. It will soften your skin and make it especially smooth.

Sensitive skin needs to be well-hydrated daily. After the treatment, remember to put on a good moisturizer every day. If you apply a self tanning product by yourself, wear gloves to protect your hands. Removing color from your palms can be difficult, but this could help. Make a paste using honey and salt, iced sugar or baking soda and rub your palms with it. You can also remove small streaks using the same recipe.

Paying a visit to a professional self tanning salon is still the best option. Your favorite shade can be applied using airbrush, by highly experienced technician. Another good, more affordable method is using tanning booths. The color is equally adorable and this treatment is perfectly harmless if you follow given instructions.
